History
Among the great place-names in the history of fine chocolates, Canton, Ohio doesn't typically resound as strongly as Antwerp or Naples. It's too bad, because as anyone who has ever tasted a Harry London confection knows, this small city in the heart of America is home to a chocolate maker that is truly world-class.
Harry London was much like any other of the young men in Canton, w orking to make a living in the local steel mill. He looked up to his father and in addition to fatherly advice, Gilbert London passed along the knowledge of how to craft high-quality, hand-made chocolates to his son. These chocolates, at first only a hobby, soon made Harry a particularly popular young man about town. In 1922, his reputation as a chocolatier had grown enough that Harry decided to hang up his hard-hat and turn his attention to full time chocolate making. The rest, as they say, is history. And one has only to taste a Harry London chocolate to see that Harry made the right decision. |
