History
Like many great projects, Haribo had its humble beginnings in a garden shed. The shed was Hans Riegel's, the location was Bonn, Germany and the year was 1923. The product, you ask? Why, the imitable Haribo Golden Bear of course, or rather the "Dancing Bear" as Hans Riegel initially thought to name it. Hans and his wife, Gertrud had been peddling their candy via bicycle, but 1923 proved a lucky year for more than one reason when they were able to acquire a car, expanding the market for their new creation.
Through a world war, massive supply shortages, and the death of Hans the young company endured to see massive success and worldwide distribution of the Golden Bear and other Haribo confections. With factories in 14 European nations including its German Heimat, kids and grown-ups everywhere love the happy world of Haribo.
